22 Days of Teachers at the PCA Retreat - Meet Linda Hess
http://polymerclayadventure.com
Meet Linda!
I have been working with polymer clay since 1994, when I bought a piece from an artist and she allowed me to "pick her brain" about the stuff. I went to the craft shop, bought some, and started on my polymer journey!
Currently I teach polymer clay classes to children in after-school groups and to adults through local bead shops. Their abilities never cease to amaze! I never feel I am going to "work" because I have such fun. I sell my work at craft shows, online, and through local shops. Others have described my work as not fitting into any one niche. I can safely describe my style as multi media/multi-dimensional. I sculpt, cane, quilt, paint, sew, work in paper and scrapbooking...pretty much anything that is asked (Can you??? is a popular question that has only once or twice been answered to the negative).
I am married and have 3 beautiful children.

22 Days of Teachers at the Polymer Clay Adventure Retreat Meet Wendy Orlowski
http://polymerclayadventure.com
Meet Wendy, of ShadesOfClay
Creativity has always been an important part of my life. I studied Illustration and Fashion Design at Sheridan College in Oakville, ON. I fell in love with the town and to this day I still reside in beautiful Oakville, near the shores of Lake Ontario with my family.
It was my love of fabrics that first led me to creating art dolls which then lead me to polymer clay and its endless possibilities. Since that day, polymer clay and mixed media materials have become a very important part of my world. In May of 2013 I became the new owner of Shades of Clay, a Canadian online store established in 2002.
I am a member of the Southern Ontario Polymer Clay Guild (SOPCG) where I continue to learn and share new techniques and ideas with like minded people. I love what I do!

22 Days of Teachers at the PCA Retreat- Meet Katie Oskin of Kater'sAcres
http://polymerclayadventure.com
Meet Katie:
I have been working with polymer clay for over four years. From the very first time polymer clay touched my fingers, I was in love! I adore the way a solid block of clay goes from hard and rigid to soft and pliable in my fingers; and then to see the image in my head come to real life amazes me to this day. I love to create joy, happiness, & smiles in clay. It is truly my passion, my hobby, and my art form. From the first time the clay hit my hands, to my early finished pieces, I was in love. And I haven’t stopped playing with clay since…and don’t plan to, any time soon.

22 Days of Teachers at the PCA Retreat- Meet Jennifer Morris
http://polymerclayadventure.com
Inspired by travels and her interest in cultures around the world, Jennifer Morris infuses her beads and sculptures with a sense of playfulness and a love for color. Jennifer's love for design and her natural artistic ability showed itself early in her life as she made paintings, sculpture and jewelry out of found objects when she was 3 years old and was accepted into arts academy at 5 and then went on to study sculpture in college and later work as a set designer in the film industry. Jennifer's pallet of materials and skills are diverse ranging from steel to wood to porcelain and paper to polymer clay. She stumbled onto polymer when she was making a 'dia de los muertos' sculpture out of papier mache 15 years ago. A friend suggested she try polymer to make the most of the detail and color she was trying to achieve. It was love at first sight and she hasn't looked back since.

22 Days of Teachers at the PCA Retreat- Meet Laurie Mika
Polymer Clay Adventure.com- check it out and Sign up today!
Laurie Mika is an artist, author and instructor. Over the last two decades, Laurie‘s mixed media mosaic work has evolved into an original and easily recognizable style. Her unique approach combines handmade polymer clay tiles with beads, jewelry pieces, charms, glass tile and found objects. She feels very fortunate to be able to combine her love of travel and passion for art through teaching at art retreats at home and around the world.
Laurie’s work has been published in countless magazines and books. She has appeared on both HGTV’s, That’s Clever and on DIY’s, Craft Lab. Laurie’s own book, Mixed Media Mosaics, was published by North Light Books in 2007.
Laurie’s background in painting is evident in her mixed-media works influenced by Medieval, Renaissance and Mexican folk art. The gilded devotional panels of the past become secular icons imbued with personal narratives. Art and folk traditions referenced in her work derive from her travels and experiences of living abroad. The highly embellished surfaces, including segments of text, form sumptuous tapestries of traditional and modern materials. Like a modern-day alchemist tinkering with the ancient art of mosaics and contemporary assemblage, Laurie finds magic in combining disparate elements.

I have been working full time as an artist since graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design in 1993. My degree was in illustration but I ended up mainly selling my work at arts festivals and galleries. I love to travel all over the country and set up my fanciful world of polymer clay creations. I also love to demonstrate the technique and watch people’s jaws drop when they realize how it works. Creating canes is always like magic and I love sharing it with my customers, collectors and students. I teach at least 3 classes a week to all ages and demographics and create tutorials for online learners.

Sign Up for Polymer Clay Adventure: click here to learn more!
I found this medium in the 80's. I knew of a similar product that only came in white when my sister worked with Disney creating prototypes with it, and after having an idea to make a sculptural brooch series; off I went to the local craft store in search of this medium …my self-discovery eventually revealed the true nature of this medium - reduction… After that "light bulb" went on, the rest they say, is history.
Artist Statement
My work is a never-ending journey beginning with an experience passing from my environment through my senses and into my Spirit. As form and design begin to take shape in my hands the expression of my Spirit reveals to me interpretations, connections and understanding of my environs. Sharing my work with others allows the experience to journey on, often returning to me in unexpected ways.
The reward of sharing my work with others comes in seeing them embrace the tangible form of my spirit as their own. This is such a powerful connection that I incorporate my Art in functional or utilitarian pieces. With the sale of my work comes the freedom to continue doing what I love and to grow. I never cease to amaze at this ~ my Spirits work.
