How to polymer clay tutorial attach to wood and make an ornament, magnet, or pendant

In this project you can learn how to attach polymer clay to a piece of wood and embellish it so you can create an ornament or magnet. You could even adapt this technique to jewelry to create pendants and earrings.

Supplies used:
Folk Art Color Shift Paint
Word art: Here's the Silkscreen I used
Premo Turquoise polymer clay
Sculpey Liquid Clay gold
Slice of wood from Hobby Lobby (oval)
2 eye screws
small piece of sari ribbon
about 4 inches of crystal cup chain
Paintbrushes

McCaw Feather Necklace with Cindi McGee

Use Red, Yellow and Blue polymer clay or Makin’s Clay® to make an assortment of both sizes of feather using the CreateAlong.com Blowing in the Wind Feather Mold. 

Cut jewelry wire to the desired length. Alternating between a green glass bead and then a feather, begin mounting to jewelry wire by making a small ball of clay in the same color of each feather, place beneath the wire. Then gently press the feather over the ball of clay to adhere the two pieces. Fresh clay will stick to fresh clay without additional adhesive. If your feathers have started to dry just slightly, moisten with a touch of water. If adhesive is needed, use Beacon® 527 to mount feather to ball of fresh clay.  

Napkin rings and decoupaged box with Darlene Madden.

Choose napkins to upcycle and raw wooden box to paint, and decoupage a paper napkin on interior of box.

Condition clay and punch out mandala designs using circle cookie cutters, impress monogram letters with rubber stamps, paint and shape to napkin ring, bake right on wooden or metal (not plastic) napkin ring.

I used the multi leaf mold for top of wooden box, along with a pretty metal flower and metal leaves under the clay ones, I always add found jewelry pieces to my designs. (seems to be my addiction).

Starfish Buttons beach plaque by Pat Krauchune.

Create Buttons using Buttons Galore mold, tint with alcohol inks and form onto a starfish shaped base.

Use a wooden fence, or make your own using On the Fence silicone mold.

Paint paint stirring sticks and glue together to form the base. Add the rest of your mixed media pieces including shells and gravel or sand from your favorite beach!

I love turning trash to treasure...Found this piece at my local thrift store a while ago.  

Gather supplies including the Feather your Nest Add on kit.

Next a cut out some feathers using my electronic cutting machine. Paint real goose feathers with gold paint and attach various bits and bobs. Using the feather mold and premo clay, created a few green feathers to mix with the real and computer cut feather shapes. Arrange everything and glue.

How to make a decorated mason jar for gift giving with polymer clay

Mason Jar gifts are everywhere- you can even buy books that feature recipes you can put in a mason jar (peanut butter cookies, anyone?) So here is a beautiful way to give the gift in a jar that they will keep! Use your cutters and stamps to create decorative patterns and they will reuse the jar over and over. www.createalong.com

To make this exact project you will need the three tools shown, plus a mason jar. I used one of the smaller ones that has a patter on the jar, but you can use any size and get similar results, just add or subtract flowers to the side of the jar to get the number you need!

How to combine multiple molds with polymer clay for a unique project

Watch as Kira guides you through the process of selecting and using molds that go well together. Change the look easily to make something that looks uniquely yours! Large Wings Mold and Flower Vine long silicone molds were used. You can get them separately or in the everyday combo deal at the shop! This project features how to use Vintaj Patina paints on polymer clay. It's a fun way to add color after baking (or before, we have tested it and it takes the oven heat fine). Have fun!

Make a pretty jar with a fitting lid with polymer clay, molds, and stamping tools

It is so fun and easy to create something to keep or give as a gift with simple tools and polymer clay!

I used Sculpey Souffle- the main color is Latte, with a little Cowboy and Key Lime mixed in for the main color of the jar. I mixed a little of that color into Premo Accents Gold for the band around the jar, and used straight Key Lime to create accents. PolymerClayTV metal stamping tools provided texture, a scallop border cutter made the right shape, and the floral medallion mold was the perfect thing to create the lid for the jar.

New Extruder for Polymer Clay and tips for using it and storing your discs

Today Ilysa did a great video on how to use our new polymer clay extruder. If you are curious about extruding clay, it's so much fun and you can make uniform shapes to build canes, twist around objects, and use for sculpting. It makes everything from snakes to triangles to clay "spaghetti!" We've bundled it up with our new set of wood-handle ball stylus tools- which are pretty cool because you can design the handles yourself. You can add alcohol inks or paints to color them, cover them with cane slices, or as Ilysa shows you- extrude some colorful clay to build a handle!

This is a great way to distinguish your own tools if you travel with them to guild meetings or classes, too. Or- why not make a set to gift to someone?

Here are some photos that Ilysa did playing around with the extruder pieces. You can keep adding and building onto a piece. Also cut the end of the extruded piece off like a cane and you will be surprised by how beautiful it is too!

Lacey Heart Plaque Polymer Clay and Wood Tutorial on Polymer Clay TV in Time for Valentines Day

Valentines Day is this weekend so of course I had to make something with hearts out of polymer clay for today's Polymer Clay TV. I have been buying these wood pieces from the craft store because I loved them but I haven't done much with them. So I challenged myself to make something that had a soft look to it for Valentines Day rather then the traditional bright red. I wanted to gift it to my sister so that she can keep it hanging all year long so I stayed away from the traditional Valentines Day Colors. The new multi flower mold and the new flourish mold were a perfect combo. Hope you enjoy the tutorial. I had fun making this one!
